What are cookies?
Cookies are small text strings, that are sent from a website to the browser you use for navigation, stored on the device (eg. Computer, Tablet, Smartphone, etc.) and transmitted back to the same website at the next visit. Usually a cookie looks like a string containing the name of the website from which the cookie has come; the "lifetime" of the cookie, and a value, which is usually a unique number generated randomly. On the basis of the subject with regard to whom falls the management of cookies sent from a website there are two types of cookies:
  • "first party" when they are managed directly by the owner and / or publisher of the website
  • "third party" when cookies are managed by persons outside the website visited by the user


What kind of cookies exist?
There are basically two motives for a website to make use of cookies, such as:
  • "technical" cookies are essential for the proper operation of certain sections of the website, are used to allow users the normal navigation and ensure the possibility to use the available services
  • "profiling" cookies allow to obtain information about users browsing on the websites, building anonymous profiles designed to make advertising more engaging and targeted


How to change your browser preferencesThe consent to receive cookies may also be expressed through specific browser configurations for users. Most browsers allow you to set rules to manage cookies sent, an option that gives users finer control of the privacy and the opportunity to deny the receipt of cookies themselves. Here are the directions for the management of cookies through the settings of the main browsers:


  1. Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar
  2. Select Settings
  3. Click Show advanced settings
  4. In the "Privacy" section, click the Content settings button
  5. In the "Cookies" section, click on All cookies and site data to open the dialog box "Cookie and site data"

  2. Click Privacy
  3. In the "Block cookies" section, specify if and when Safari should accept cookies from websites. To see an explanation of the options, click the Help button (question mark)
  4. If you want to see which websites store cookies on your computer, click Details

  1. Select Opera > Preferences > Advanced > Cookies
  2. check "Delete new cookies when exiting Opera" and close Opera when you have finished browsing

  1. Click on the Firefox menu button and select Preferences
  2. Select the Privacy panel
  3. Under History settings select Use custom settings

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu and then click the Security tab
  2. Click the Web content zone you want, and then click Custom Level
  3. In cookies, select the options you want, click OK, and then click OK
